This trip was 2 weekends ago, when we went to Baxter State Park and hiked North and South Brother, and Mt. Coe...a 10 mile loop. That knocks off one more 4,000 footer in Maine...only a few left for me!
The forecast for Saturday was looking grim, as they were predicted Hurricane Bill to wreak havoc in New England...we went anyway, as we had reservations in the park. And after all, we are no longer afraid of wet hiking after this summer...summer hiking in the rain? No problem!
Luckily we had a great day...there were a few foggy summits where the views were intermitten, but really a great day overall.
Huge dragonfly on the way up North Brother...one landed on me later in the day and hung out for quite a while...this monster would scare any bug! Aerial predator extraordinaire!

Mt. Coe was enshrouded in fog by this point, but it came in and out all day. It never got too hot, and we didn't have to worry about sun burn...pretty ok by me.
Comin' back down into the valley. These next photos show the huge rock slide we had to come down. Thank god it wasn't wet, or it would have been a slippy slide! I do not recommend coming down directly from Mt. Coe on a wet day...better to go up the slide and around back down the Marston Trail.
You'd accidentally kick a rock, and it would roll all the way down...crash!
These last two are of our campsite within the park, Nesowdnehunk...we had our own little personal lean-to shelter with a fire pit and table. The sky was awesome that night and the field was really cool. Views of the mountains, a nice change from our usual camping in the forest.
Relaxing after a long day...what a great trip! Next year we are thinking about spending a whole week in Baxter, maybe doing some canoeing as well as hiking...anyone game? :)
